The CryptoWeb

An Online Encyclopedia of Cryptozoology and Other Zooform Phenomena

The CryptoWeb is, as the name implies, an updating and revision of my old website (which I'm sure is still extant out on the web). I drew inspiration from the various encyclopedias of cryptozoological topics, especially things like Coleman's Cryptozoology A-Z and Eberhart's Mysterious Creatures: A Guide to Cryptozoology. I've also taken the notion of "zooform phenomena" and added that to the mix. These are the creatures that are more supernatural-seeming, such as the British black dogs, but that are nonetheless well-documented and relevant. Cryptozoological research sometimes veers into this realm.

I've generally tried to avoid any creature for which there are no sightings (this is an encyclopedia of at least half-reality, not of folklore and mythology), although I will list mythical beings with relevance to cryptozoological sightings. I'm also trying to avoid most anything that seems a pretty obvious urban legend. So no hidden villages of albino cannibals or monstrous inbred products of Satanic rituals. And by necessity, there's going to be a lot of specific sightings of various cryptids that are omitted.
